Tashur walked into the gates of the capital city, his heart racing. He had not been here since his childhood. Memories flooded back to him in a tidalwave that he could not control, sending the cobbled ground below him spinning. His childhood had been hard, but if it had been any different, he would not posses the great skill that he had today. Not the most honest of livings, but hey, it was living and that was all that mattered to Tash.
Once his right mind had been regained, and the guards giving him odd looks had returned to their posts, Tash headed for the open market. His pockets were heavy with the coins he had 'persuaded' from a few people on the town over, and he needed some food. He had not eaten for two days, and his stomach was growling. He entered the market, and years of walking these streets led him to a vendor near the edge of the market. This vendor had the cheapest food that was actually edible.
After a small exchange, and a conciderable lighter pocket, he found himself sitting in a grassy knoll eating an early lunch on the stubby salt grass. It was quieter up here, and he watched the market bustling down below him.

Shay hasn't got money. She hasn't even got proper clothes on. With her ridiculously large tricorner shoved down on her head and her hair tucked up under it, she looks just like a boy-- albeit a scrawny one.
The same vendor Tash just left looks mighty appetizing. So, with her hands shoved way into her pockets, she casually strolls up to the side of the stall and pretends to be inspecting an apple with one hand as her right hand comes discreetly up to snitch another apple from the stall and slide it into a pocket on the front of her tunic. The same hand goes out again, this time for a small loaf of bread more towards the center of the stall...
the vendor looks at her funny, but due to his position can't really see what she's doing. "Lo, lad."
"G'day, mister," she replies in a cheerful tone. The bread inches closer...

Tash scanned around the market, eating his food, when an interesting site caught his eye. A small kid was at the vendor he had just left, trying to steal some food. He grinned. Just like he used to do. He stood up, deciding that he would help the kid out. He walked down casually, going to the vendor he had just left.
"Excuse me sir," He said to the vendor, taking his attention away from the kid. "Your bread was good and all, but I dont think it was quite worth a silver. So, I think I should get another piece, to even things out between us." He said this all in a compleatly calm tone, keeping his expresion as much of a nieve tourist as he could get. The vendor seemed to compleatly forget the kid as he looked at Tash with a raised eyebrow. "A silver was the price we agreed on, and that was for one loaf. Ye arn't gettin' anything more that that."
"But sir," Tash began, "That was the price we agreed on before I tried the bread" Now his hand also was reaching for a loaf, and with the other hand, he was wildly gesturing to prove his point and distrac the vendor. The loaf had dissapeared as they argued, and he hoped the boy next to him had procured his loaf. With a defeated look, Tash made it seem like he gave up the arguement. He turned a way, and began to walk back to the knoll, hoping that the boy would follow him so he could share the loaf.

Balls of fire took off from slender hands and exploded into flying birds in the air. Each was guided unknowingly with magic and all became simple juggling stones as they landed back in her hands. The lord watching was very impressed and looked up high after the birds, and failed to notice his purse conveniently gone when his eyes followed back down. ShadowMask was just about to make a big finish when something of more interest caught her eye. 'A thief? No...two.' Through her years of practice ShadowMask could very easily hide her movements as she stole, but also learned to notice the hands of other thieves. After all, it would be bitterly embarrassing if someone like her was stolen from. Her eyes sparkled with amusement as she gave an over exaggerated bow, signaling the end of her act. ShadowMask sank into the darkness of a stall once her audience had disappeared. Now she was interested to see what would happen.

Shay shoves the loaf into her pocket and snatches two more in the meantime, her hand darting out like lightning. Grinning like a maniac she stares after Tash as she watches him distract the merchant. Allright, well, maybe he's smoother'n me, she thinks grudgingly. But just a little.
She feels eyes on the back of her head and looks around for the source, but in the crowd she can't really spot ShadowMask out of the rest. Sleeves spilling well over her hands, she thrusts the floppy ends back into her pockets nevertheless with her chin tucked down as she follows Tash out of the market.
Once they're outside the main square she decides to speak up, her voice curiously feminine for what anyone would take as a street-rat of a boy at first glance. "Don' have t'back me up, yeh know. I could'a had 'im m'self!" she says defiantly.

Tash stopped on the grass, and turned around at the sound of the boy's voice. It was curiously high, but Tash paid that no mind. "I know, but you looked hungry, and I was bored. Here, you can have this too if you want, I already ate." He held out the loaf he had stolen, offering it to the kid. "What's your name?" He said.
He was slightly amused at the situation, considering how much alike he was to this kid. This was exactly how he had met his mentor, only Tash was not nearly as smooth as this kid when he started out. He had almost had his hand lobed of for stealing, when a compleate stranger had stepped up and caused the assailant to look up long enough for Tash to dash away to freedom.
OOC: Sorry, short post...

"You know the penalty for stealing is the removal of your hand right?" Said the fluid voice of ShadowMask as she stepped out of the darkness and showed herself to the two. Of course she would never turn in a fellow thief, but this had fun written all over it. Her hand, delecate like all elves, juggled the stones absentmindedly as the other brushed her blond hair from her face. Her eyes still showed amusement as she wondered how the two would react.
((Ahh mines even shorter than yours...))

Shay looks up to Tash and blinks, slowly reaching out to take the loaf as if she's afraid he's gonna lean over and bite her head off. And then, almost grudgingly, she takes a bite from the end of it, considering a while.
"Smiggers," she lies. "M'name's Jacob Smiggers. Wha' 'bout you, mister?"
As the elf approaches them, she narrows her eyes at ShadowMask. Elves-- pff. Think just 'cause they live forever they can boss you around.
"Only if yeh kin catch th'thief in question firs'," she points out. "N' I think we're both fas' runners."

Tash grinned. This was what he lived for.
"And who even says we are theives? I am just here enjoying an afternoon lunch with my little brother here. There is nothing against the law about that" He knew perfectly well that the elf would not turn them in, but a battle of wits kept all theives sharp in mind and tongue. He turned to the both of them, adressing neither one in particular. "I am Tasur Dangeau, traveler and lover of the Road. This," He gestured to, um... Jacob... "Is Jacob Smiggers" He said. "And you are...?" He let his voice trail away, hoping that the masked elf would finish his sentance.

"ShadowMask...for obvious reasons." She motioned to the mask she always wore then added almost sarcastically, "Its a pleasure to meet you. Jacob and Tashur." She gave another one of her mocking bows with low bend a wave of the hand. She smirked again. "Yes I suppose you must be a fast runner, to have not been caught with your skills yet, Jacob." It was an insult, but it was the truth. The boy had brains and could think quickly, but it took training to develop the hands of a true thief.

Shay snickers then. "A better runner and a better shot'n any sort a' thief," she says as if this much should be obvious. "Bu' anyways. Wot kinneh a name's ShadowMask? 'Aven' yeh got a normal name like... er. Julie or Samantha or wha'nae? Or did yer parents jus' 'ave a funny sense a' humor?" she adds, her grin turning wry.
Crunching off another bite of the loaf of bread, she settles down next to Tash as if they're old buddies. Apparently she's not much for the idea of a personal space bubble.

Tash chuckled under his breath at the two standing before him. This could be interesting. They seemed more than a match for each other. To bad he didn't have any popcorn. He was curious though, as to why the elf refered to herself as Shadowmask. It could be an alter ego or something, but having just a mask really didn't do much to discuise one's features. The hair was still the same, the gait and the posture were still the same. No, if Tash had to hide his identity, he did not do it with a mask, but his whole manner. He was interested in how Shadowmask would reply to the question...

ShadowMask gave a blank stare. "Are you seriously asking a masked person to tell you the hidden name? Why to do that would be to unmask the very reason the person would want to wear a mask." She made a gesture to the air."Which would leave no reason for me to wear this masking that masks away also my name, so I shan't be unmasking myself by telling my name, in fact I shan't be unmasking myself at all! Not that you would understand the concept of which I Masked myself in the first place, which of course would having being done would have led me to not want to be unmasking the mask that masks me." She made an expression that told she could hardly believe a person would ask a question like that...as if the solution were obvious.
Secretly she did not use the mask to hide her identity from other people, but to hide the person she was in her past from herself in the mirror.

Shayde pouts a little, affixing her tricorner so it further obscures her face. "Foine. If yeh don' wanneh tell me yer name then I'll call you.." she thinks. "well, sommin' else. Shadowmask's way t'long fer a proper conversation." She was slightly thrown off by all the 'masks' in that sentence, and it takes her a second to puzzle it all out. Suddenly it hits her: "Yeh mus' be a burn victim! An' thas' why yeh hide yer scarred face! I'll call you Crispy," she declares, and then grins deviously. "Thas' got a nice ring to it." even as she bites off another bit of bread from the hunk in her hands she somehow manages to make it look sly. After a moment of thought she adds, "If yeh two aren't gonna head outta th'city anytime soon... we could make a wager. Tha' is, unless y'think you'll lose a contest I propose." Tash laughed again. This kid was funny. "Thats a good name. From here on out, you shall be know as the burn victim Crispy." At the proposition of a wager, Tash smiled. He loved to bet, and for that matter, cheat. He was a con-artist after all.
"What exactly did you have in mind Jacob?" He said, his voice clearly excited.
OOC: Akk sorry, I have no muse at the moment....
