Faolan's pride bristled. "I need no carriage, Lord, I can walk perfectly well on my own."
Faolan began walking to the doors and pushed them open, he knew his leg would cause him pain on the way to the armoury, but he wouldn't let the High Lord know of it. He would be able to make it. Definitely.

"Very well then Captain," Arthur stood up and called the servants to the table. "Unfortunately the food will not be needed, move it out to the city and give it to the peasants."
He turned and followed the ranger out into the hallway. He wasn't sure whether he would know his way through the winding halls of the city, seeing as he hadn't been here in a long time. "The armoury is this way." And with that he lead the way down a hallway...
[ooc: walking... walking...]
Arthur arrived at the armoury a little slower than usual, but he could perfectly understand why that was the case. He nodded to one of the guards and they opened one of the heavy iron doors. He walked in and took a key out of his belt and slotted it into a porthole in another larger, more serious looking door which was more elaborately made.
The lock thudded open and the guard pushed the doors open smoothly. Inside there were all assortments of weapons hanging from shelves lining the massive room. Sheilds, swords, lances, spears, axes, halberds and even a few morning stars were placed there. Further towards the back of the room there were suits of armour stood up against wooden backings, ranging from full platemail to light travelling leather armour and ringmail. Arthur headed for the latter, "Take your pick Lupus..."

Faolan looked at all the armour with his head held high.
"I need light armour. Perhaps some chain or ringmail, only over the chest though. The leather armour is needed." Faolan picked up a chainmail vest. It had a ring missing. He discarded it and continued searching.
"As for my sword, I need a decent sword, but again, of light yet strong material. I don't care for elaborate designs. I'm a ranger not some pompous lord."
Faolan turned back to Montford, having chosen a suit of leather armour he thought adequate. "I escaped with my bow, I don't need a new one."

Arthur noted his words when Faolan had stated lords as being pompous. It was clear he wasn't around other people very often due to his lack of tact. However Arthur had to admit that there was an increasing amount of lords these days who would do nothing but sit at their houses of power and eat and drink and bed. They spent more money on the design of their sword and how good their armour looked, instead of paying to learn how to actually use the damn things. He sighed inwardly. Soldiers and warriors led such different lives to civilians.
Arthur looked at the jerkin of boiled leather Faolan was holding in his hands. The Lion of men was emblazoned roughly across the chest, just like Arthur's platemail, just like every other man-made armour. "That jerkin is fitting for a ranger. You may have it. As for a sword..." Arthur walked over to the rack of swords which lined down the entire wall. He skipped a long section of swords before he finally came across a set of simple looking blades.
He pulled one out of the wooden casing and drew it out of its scabbard. "Try this one. The blade is clean and newly made. Although the hilt has been previously used seeing as it is a tad battered. Its a hand-and-a-half sword. Not as short as a shortsword, nor as long as a longsword, suited for combat in lightly wooded terrain. Here," He handed the sword over hilt first and the scabbard in his other hand for the ranger...

Faolan put the leather armour over his shoulder and followed Monford to the sword. The sword he picked looked simple, but Faolan didn't care. He needed a sharp, strong weapon. If it could do the job well, then it was what Faolan wanted.
Faolan accepted the blade and ran a hand across the blade. It was sharp, but Faolan needed a sword that would stay sharp.
"What condition is the blade?" Faolan asked. "How long will it stay sharp before detirierating?"
Faolan held the sword for a moment. Hand and a half swords were made for use with two hands. He old sword had been long and thin, this sword seemed heavier, but that may have just been because he was recovering.

Arthur looked at the blade, "Like I said, its been newly crafted and look..." He took the blade back off the ranger and held it up to the firelight, watching the light reflect off the cutting egde. He could faintly see three ripples along the side of the metal. "... the blade is folded steel. Like the more expensive swords in our armoury."
The Lord Commander absent-mindedly waved a hand at the racks of thousands of swords and spears. Only about a quarter of them were folded steel though. "My own sword is folded steel, and as long as you keep the blade oiled and clean, and whet out the chinks after a battle, the blade should easily last you for years before you need a new one. Trust me, I've had mine for many years, and through many battles."
He handed the sword back to the ranger. "Although your bow will come in more handy for you against creatures like that. A sword will only dent itself on their skin I can imagine."

"Indeed." Faolan said, nodding as he accepted the sword back from Montford. "Against creatures of such like I would rather stay at a distance and take them down from afar."
Faolan paused before looking back to Montford. "But there are other dangers in the forests that I would gladly use my sword against. Yes, this sword will do me fine."
Faolan pushed the sword back into its scabbard and held it in his right hand.
"So when will I be permitted to leave this city?"

The Lord Commander knew that the ranger had been commanded to stay here until his wounds were healed and he was fit for active duty again. And forsaking the courtesy of the King was not something to be done lightly, but he figured the ranger could handle the wild soon enough. After all, the only visible shortcomings he could see was a limp and some stiffness in his movements.
"If you feel you are fit your active duty again Captain, and you feel your injuries will not hinder your ability to lead your patrol. Then you may leave on the morrow with the next ranger fielding and they'll take you to your next posting." It was already getting dark, and the ranger would need some sleep.
"If these creatures are attacking from the Ice Plains, then I would have you return to your station there and make sure that no more come through. I trust you can handle that Captain."
