Arthur turned in his seat and returned the nod of the head to Faolan. He was a ranger captain after all...
"My ladies this is Faolan Lupus, the ranger who encountered the beast. Most of his party is dead as a result and the rest are waiting in the infirmary." Arthur waved a hand towards the ranger, indicating the scar down his face and his battered leg. "As you can see, against a strength like this, we need alliances, not more enemies..."

Ceriden nodded. "I will find and speak to the dragon." She turned to Faolan, "I need a description of the beast, if possible. As for friends, the Selkies are not warriors, but we will help you fight these beast, but that is where our alliance ends. Just as the fox and rabbit can never be friends, we can not so easily. But I am willing to stay on friendly terms for the time being." OOC: Sorry, short post. I have no Muse

Arthur sighed, knowing that what they had just accomplished was further than he had hoped for, and he wasn't about to push his luck. He didn't turn to Faolan when Ceriden did. He had already heard his report. It didn't make for light reading, that was one thing to be sure of.
Without even seeing the beast, Arthur was afraid of what if could do to men and women alike. He and Aric would still need to speak to the Herena, but he let Faolan tell his part of the story to the queen's first...

Faolan paused, holding silence around them for a moment before beginning. He wasn't quite sure where to begin.
"We had set up camp for the night," Faolan began. His eyes took on a somewhat dreamy appearance, like the memory was so far away it was hard to touch and tell. "It was raining heavily, and the lightning flashes were the only things that could help us see.
"I was on watch duty, and I was sharpening my sword when the lightning flashed and I saw an arm as thick as a tree trunk rushing towards me. If I hadn't seen it, I wouldn't be talking to you now, that's for sure. Luckily for me, I jumped out of the way and it only hit my leg."
Faolan paused and rubbed his eyes.
"It never made a noise." Faolan said. "Whatever this thing was, it completely eluded my detection until it was literally standing right in front of me. It was covered in scales, but they were black and unreflective. It had long spines across it's back and huge front limbs and powerful back limbs for running. I think that it was only the head that needed protection, as it wore that helm. It had a sword, but it was massive. I don't think any man could have held it, led alone wielded it. It didn't cut people, it destroyed them. It seemed to glow with a black fire, and once hit with it, my men blackened and screamed as if they were burning, though no fire was truly visible. But I could feel it.
"It's all a blur. . . the beast, it plowed through my men with that damned sword. There were only a handful of us left, all of us fleeing. It only stopped when I shot it in the eye."
Faolan paused so that what he had said sunk in.
"If there is an army of them, we do not stand a chance." Faolan looked at the helmet. "It is as silent as a cat and has the power of a pride of lions combined."

Ceriden nodded. "If this beast truley is as ferocious as you say, then I had better get information about it right away. I will take my leave, if none of you have anything more to say to the Selkies..." She had stood up, but did not leave toward the door yet. This whole thing was very unsettling. Though these creatures seemed only to attack by land, her people were still in danger. She wanted to go now to speak to Lakeith, to gather as much information as she could.
"Shall we meet again in a week's time, after I have spoken with the dragon king?" She asked to the courtroom. As always, Shanette had been quiet, but that was her nature. If she wanted to add anything, she would.

A week from now, my queen, at your bidding," Arthur bowed his head to the Selkie Chieftainess. "And pray that the news may be less worrisome on the day."
He looked over towards the Herena clan leader, she hadn't said anything, but he definately hoped that she felt the same way as the Selkie did. Perhaps she would accompany the Selkie to meet with the Dragon Lord, but he could only guess. "If you desire it, Captain Lupus, by your leave, you may return to your duties unless you wish to remain. Keep the ranging parties strong on the Ice Plains but inform them to take on a sentry role only, we don't need any more dead scouts on our hands. We will definately need them, and veteran troops are extremely hard to replace."
He half expected the King to say something soon, from what Arthur could assertain he had been silently observing the proceedings with interest...

Faolan nodded again to the High Lord and to the Selkie Chieftainess as she stood up to leave. Faolan had always been interested in the Selkie people, unfortunately, being in the forests so much limited how much knowledge he could gather on them.
"If it please you, my lord, I will be gone as soon as I can." Faolan would have added that it certainly pleased him, but manners were ultimate in the presence of the King and his Court.
"Is there anything else you would need me for?" Faolan asked the Court in general, itching to leave as soon as possible.

"No Captain, you may return to your posting. Thank you for your presence here today," Arthur turned back to the court, noticing that their numbers had dwindled quite a bit. He figured that it was not his place to speak first now.
Aric or the Herena queen should speak now, he had only come her for military advisory, and he felt that need was albeit over now as he looked at the helmet in the middle of the table.
He picked it up and out it back in the sack, and it was terribly heavy. He was about to hand it back to the guard when he thought of something.
"Selkie queen my lady," he adressed Ceriden. "Will you take the helmet to show this dragon elder?"

Ceriden looked at the heavy sack. "I will be traveling in seal form most of the way, because the Dragon lord dwells at the Nirrodian Archipellago, and it will be faster for me to swim. My flippers can not hold that sack. I will describe it to him, but if he does not believe me, I am positive that I can find the one I located earlier, and that will most likely satisfy his eyes." She bowed her head to the other members in the meeting. "I'll see all of you in a week's time." She turned, and walked toward the heavy doors, closing them with a soft echo as she left.
The sea was fairly close, but for the thrill of it, she broke into a run, understanding how much her Herana friends enjoyed this way of movement. He feet pounded against the earth, and the wind played with her dark hair. She could feel the salty breeze now, and very soon she could see the ocean, sparkling in the sun. She came to a small point and leapt off a rock, diving into the deep blue below, her head breaking the water with a splash. She pulled out her seal skin and slipped it on, begginning her journey.

Aric listened to the conversations of the Court. He listened to the terrible story of the beast that attacked a fellow ranger. "Faolan? Why is it that you look so familiar to me? " He asked with a raised brow. "Other than being one of my people, you look particularly familiar...I cannot put my finger on it..." He said with a bit of confusion. "Well then...There is no more to discuss about the beast you saw correct?" He asked forgetting about the other question "I wish for you to stay until your leg heals...completely, not any sooner" He said with a commanding voice "I don't care if it takes weeks" He said looking down at Lupus' leg. "As for now, I will get you some new armor and a new weapon of your choice. Free of charge and Arthur, you will be the one to make sure of this. Report to me in my castle when you are finished." He said standing from his tall chair.

Shannette felt quite forgotten but it was not abnormal for she usually was very quiet. It was hard for her to communicate sometimes. Being taken away from humans at four and returned to them at fourteen left a wide gap of ten years where she was taught of the terrors of man to the deer. Shannette, though not hating them found it hard to relate to them or speak to them. She did not mind rangers so much as they lived amoung wildlife but Kings and Soldiers? They were barbaric- eating the meat of deer and using their hides. IT was revolting. She was in a desperate struggle with herself. Helf of her wanted to help and half of her wanted to turn away and leave man to his troubles, but if these creatures were half as bad as they were described, she feared for all deer and Herana alike. These beasts could easily inflict more damage to the deer than the humans ever could. Suddenly, she had decided. Shannette stood up ubruptly and in a surprisingly sharp voice said, "Give the Helmet to Me." She held out her hand. "I shall take it to the Lord of the Beasts. I can carry it and the island chains are'nt far apart. I can get help from the seals. The Dragon Lord shall not help us without proof to go with the story and perhaps a treasure to mount in his cave."
She waited, shaking her long black hair out of the way.

Faolan paused and stiffened as the High King asked about his familiararity.
"I'm sure you have met many people throughout the years," Faolan answered, perhaps a little too quickly. [ooc: Maybe cause we both stared in LotR XDDDD] "Faces tend to mould together over time and people you've never met before seem familiar."
Faolan bowed, very stiffly and the couldn't hold the irritation in his eyes, as much as he tried. "If that is what your Majesty commands, than I shall remain within this city."

Arthur called the guard back to him and took the heavy sack off his hands. He stood up and held it out over the wide table. At arm's length, it was almost impossible for to hold up, even for Arthur who had spent his entire life training with sword, shield and lance. "Then please, take it. Anything that will help our cause. I do not believe we will get any more use out of it here in Mylithia. Careful though... its heavy."
The High Lord heard what Aric was saying to him. and he bowed low to the King when the sack was out of his hands. "As you wish my liege." He then turned back to Faolan, "I'm sure we can find some light, powerful armour and a fine new sword for the ranger." He wondered if there was a way to let the ranger out of the city early. Maybe he could just say that his leg had healed and he was ready to leave. The High Lord doubted that the ranger wanted to spend much more time within the stone fortress.
"Herena, before you leave. Men must know if you will aid us in the upcoming war. Or if you can't now, then at least consider the proposal..."

"I will help you," Said Shannette rather coldly, "Only to help my own." She staggered under the wait of the bag, and set it on the floor before changing into a deer. Taking the draw string, she lifted it over her neck and positioned it in such a awy over her pale backskin back, that it would not choke her.
"I have no other Herana to lead, but I shall send deer to patrol. This does not mean we are on friendly terms though, for as long as you hunt deer, they shall ever fear and depise you and we shall forever hate you for it."
Her light hooves left an echo in the hall as she ran out of the entrance and around the back of the meeting place. The wind blew gently through her hallow fur as she rushed down a wide banking slope. She hoped to catch up with Ceriden before the seal crossed the sea barrier between Malitha and the Land of the Beasts, but she could not see the selkie in site and feared she had already crossed the great water.
From the corner of her eye, Shannette thought she saw a hunter lurking in the woods but as she passed him at a far distance and quick pace, his jaw dropped and gaped and his bow slipped from his fingers. For what he saw was a doe, carrying a bag that bore the King's Colors.

Arthur heard what she said in human form, but when she spoke in deer form, all he heard was blurts and grunts. Nothing that he could undertstand, and maybe he didn't want to.
He sighed as the Herena left the hall at a sprint and turned towards Faolan. "Shall we go to armoury of the royal guard then? You can pick out some new armour and a new weapon, as per the King's commands."
He was about to leave, the armoury was a fair walk from the seating hall, and it would take a little over twenty minutes to weave their way through the massive city, and he wasn't sure how the ranger would handle it on his leg, wounded as it was. "I can summon a carriage to help you get their if you need it Captain..."
