History:
Shannette is an odd exception to those of the herana race. While most are born as a herana, very few are made herana. It takes alot of trust and magic to do so and deer only create a herana every thousand years- the rest are born and bred between the herana.
Shannette lived amoung humans until she was four. Her mother was a human who lived near the edge of the village and far away from others for fear that they might find out she was the wife of a an infamous elf pirate. Not only that, he was the King of Rougues and thus, was the most wanted vegabond in all the mainland. Though Shannette was the first daughter to her mother, she was the second daughter to her rougish father who had another child four years previously to her birth. Though his other duaghter was only her half sister and a purebred elf, the two showed such extrodinary similarity to eachother in such a way that they could pass as twins.
When her half sister's mother mysteriously vanished, her father sent her to Shannette and her mother to be raised. Though the two only spent three years together before Shannette was stolen by the deer, they could not be any more opposite. Aunnah, as was her half sister's name, exceeded beyond the basic cruelty of a pirate, to the point where Shannette was afraid to leave her room every morning. Her mother, though, believed that Shannette was being foolish, for though Aunna constantly found new, creative ways to torture her, she cleverly masked her cruelty and evil set mind under a convincing mask of pure innocence in front of Shannette's oblivious mother.
When she could get away from Aunna, intelligent two year old Shannette would wonder from the house to the bordering forest to examine the colorful wildflowers that grew around the thick wooden bases of trees. While most two year olds would have been content to look at the pretty colors and then walk back home, Shannette would spend howers watching them and their world. She watched the bees and the butterflies and the ants that ran through busy little high ways around them and every day, she would watch them blossom and close with the rise and the set of the sun.
It was on one of these occurances that she met a yuong stag, who could miraculously speek. Being so abused by her older half sister and slightly ignored by her mother, Shannette enjoyed the gentle stag's company far beyond any other.
When she turned three, Shannette, stowed away whenever she could to the bordering forest. The stag had a great many stories and all of them fascinated her. Though she was incredibally young, she had such intelligence for her young age, such a yern for knowledge, that the Stag himslef, was impressed with her. One day, after an incredible story about his herd's recent encounter with a pack of wolves Shannette told him what she wished ever since she had met him. "I want to be like you" is what she said. The Stag stared at her with intelligent and sorrowful eyes.
For days after that, Shannette would go to the borders of the forest, but every day, dissappointment struck her heart as she noticed that her dear friend the stag, had never shown up. She was about to give up completely on returning to the bordering forest and glumly back to her cruel half sister, when on her fourth birthday, the Stag returned. He knelt down on the ground before her and said, "I have a gift for you."
Shannette exitedly scrambled onto his back, not knowing that she would never return.
Shannette was granted the rare gift to become a herana at four, which she most willingly accepted. For six years, she lived amoung the deer until, one day, her dear friend the stag, explained to her that she needed to learn the ways of the herana, not just the deer and that she needed to learn the ways of the human too. Though Shannette was utterly distraught, she willingly left the deer herd to live with a herana, who was born as one and not created as one. He was a thief, and taught her all he knew. By the time she was sixteen and sent to learn and live on her own, Shannette herself was an accomplished theif.
Shannette lived her two years, until she was eighteen, trying to find the herd and the daer stag friend she had met so long ago, but was shot down in a great dispair when she found that the whole herd had been hunted and killed for the prophet of clothing and where it once resided, the small port of Vyryr was created.
Walking along the coastline near the port of Vyryr, Shannette weeped angry tears. She was not aware that a young seal was watching her. It slipped into the water and then swam up the shorline to meat with her. It too could talk and told her it's name Ceriden. The seal sympathized with the herana and reveiled herself as the queen of the Selkies. The two became close knit friends, sharing some of the same bitter taste for most humans. Together, they met at Ceriden's ISland for two years untill Shannette turned nineteen. Untill then, they had not found land sutable for Shannette. It was a coincidence that they found the Isle of the Herla shrouded in fog nearly a mile and a half swim from Arrley coast where Ceriden resided. Now the two are still fierce friends and still see eachother often.
After that, Shannette felt the long for revenge enter an gnaw at her heart, though she was too gentle a person to carry it out. Now at age nineteen, Shannettte is queen of the herana and a protector of deer, though she still distastes humans she can live with them, though she glares at disgust at any who wears the hide of a deer.
Other: Shanette despises dwarves for their love of meat and their particualr love for deer. She hates them beyond belief and finds it repulsing that their diet is composed of nearly all meat.
