Arthur sheathed his sword and held his shield limply in his hand. At ShadowMask's words, he looked back over his men. These men weren't the best in his armies, but they were far from the worst either. They should be able to keep their own heads on their shoulders.
Two of them looked like they had cuts and scrathes down their bodies and faces, but nothing terribly major. "You underestimated us then dear elf." He heard some sounds from below the cliff, and he figured that the beast may not have been completely dead yet. "Yes, this was my only man. Per chance maybe we should return to the top now, before the beast gets back, if its still able. Which I doubt."
He turned to his men, "Keep yourselves in one piece until you get to the top. We'll take a look at your wounds up there. Quickly men, dusk is falling..."

ShadowMask gave an odd sort of smile. "Ah...you go ahead. I think I am going to stay here and...finish my fight." It was a lie, and not a very good one, but ShadowMask would regret if she showed her pain to these men. After all...they could end up fighting each other. She sat down on a rock, as if to prove she was not planning on leaving. She would leave as soon as the men were out of sight, she simply wondered if the creature would catch up with her first. Not that it would matter. Injured or not, ShadowMask was a force to be reckoned with.

Arthur frowned slightly when she spoke. The elf sounded less than half honest, but he was willing to give her the benefit of the doubt, after all. She was probably a major reason why he and his men were still alive and strong. "By your leave mi'lady."
His soldiers were making their way up the cliff, and it was just the Lord Commander and ShadowMask left on the ledge. He walked over and put a hand on her shoulder, "Thank you, ShadowMask. Truly. You helped me even though you didn't have to. I hope our paths cross again someday, and that we are not on opposing sides of this world."
He looked at her a moment longer before he turned and started walking away, following his men back up the slope. "Oh!" He turned back to her. "And when we first met, I asked you why you wore that mask, and you answered that it only hid the person who you once were. Do you remember?"
He waited a moment, "You should take it off, because I see nothing you need hiding." He nodded and continued on his way, away from her...

Yes she remembered. ShadowMask let a small smile come across her face. Nothing that needs hiding? If only he knew and lived what she did, then he might think of wearing one himself. She watched him go then shook her head. It was not often that someone thanked her. Not that she ever really deserved thanks. She smiled to herself, watching till she was sure he was out of sight that struggled to her feet and also made her way up the cliff. Pain throbbed her every step but ShadowMask hardly noticed. She reached the top, and before long she could find the herbs she needed then disappear out of sight from the cliff.
