Arthur looked up as the wide door creaked open and Faolan walked in in a Mylithian doublet. ”Ah, Captain. Good morning to you, I would apologise for waking you at this hour, but I doubt you were actually woken in the first place.”
He glanced over at Rid, before continuing, ”We’ve received word of a hostile force which has placed a threat on the residents of Mylithia. At the moment we don’t know a lot about them, except that they resemble creatures which have once been dead. Basically we need you to lead a reconnaissance group into the forests between here and Arn and find out all you can about them. The Lord Commander here knows more about it then I do, so I’ll let him brief you further…”
He took a step back and left the floor open for Rid to step in and take charge…

Rid slips in, looking more like a cat making its way through a door than a Lord Commander. He's always wary when there are others around-- "They must be light sleepers, mustn't they, to be able to sleep in trees...?" he replies to Arthur with a little grin at the ranger comment.
And then he examines Faolan, grey eyes narrowed in the slightest. Not with malice or annoyance, but recognition; he knows him by face, though not by name. "Aye, the Lord Commander--" and then realizing he's just been referred to by the same title hastily amends "--De Montford, is quite correct. They bear a sigil upon them which, one of my magical experts informs me, signifies that they are indeed puppets, and not risen of their own volition. Beyond that... we cannot be certain as to their intent or their exact number." He shakes his head a little. "I was hoping you might... assist? You would, of course, be quite rewarded."

Faolan frowned at his comment about sleeping in trees. He, for a moment, felt that Merides was somehow tried to attack his pride with an insult. But the conversation left no time for petty arguing. Faolan felt himself better then dragging into a argument of pride anyway. There were more important things to do, but he did store the comment of the Commander in his mind, perhaps for later use.
"I am not a mercenary." Faolan said. "I don't need rewards to sway me. I am just a soldier, like you or Montford, a soldier for the crown. As long as I have food I am fine. I don't need a house, or other unnessecary items of the like."
But he continued on the topic that mattered. "I have run into. . . a few undead creatures in my time." Faolan said, lapsing into a serious tone of memory. "They have ice blue skin, a skin that shines, and everything they walk, things begin to freeze." He breathed out, remembering. "There are more than undead humans. There are undead cats and dogs, and undead horses. All manner of creature are summonded from the depths of hell itself. They cannot be killed with steel. They are already dead. One needs to know the right. . . weaponry. They say that fire is strongest against them, and I am your proof that that is true. But fire is a terrible weapon to have, and it can easily turn against you. The Undead are a most worrying opponent. You must kill the person reviving them from their peace, or they will simply rise again. Even fire cannot keep them forever. The Deathweaver must be killed, or you must flee."

[You're welcome to join, Ziggy, but they're in the Guard barracks, in the middle of the city-- not in the forest. ;D]
Merides looks first skeptically, then gravely at Faolan. Dear Signs. As if all this weren't quite ominous to begin with-- throw in a list of things they can't be killed with, just to make it worse! He adjusts the lapels of his coat crisply, clearing his throat in what might be construed as nervousness.
"Then we must, of course, remove this Deathweaver-- if such is its title. Mylithia cannot flee from an undead menace. Such a thing is intolerable; the city has quelled bandits, raiders, ghastly creatures of every size and shape imaginable; are we to be overridden by the undead at the zenith of our glory?" he says, his voice very quiet and the words spoken in that soft, purring tone that demonstrates his worry.
"Fire, you say. The forests could be smoked. But such damage would... quickly consume Mylithia's walls as well." He hesitates: "I would put a great deal of men and supplies behind you, Captain Lupus, if you are able to assist in such a manner as rooting out these... things. As you have declared yourself beyond monetary reward, I would not think to sully such an honourable thing; however, the Mylithian guard would be indebted-- as would I." He inclines his head, ever the diplomat. "However, we must make care that those methods do not cause undue harm to the city herself."

"The city?" Faolan laughed, it might have been taken as an insult, but so could the forest remarks. "If I am to have any power in this movement, the forests will not be touched by fire. Too much lies within them. Men are already greatly disliked by forest dwelling creatures, you do not want to bring the wrath of Elves and the Deer-People upon you. It is a fool's path."
"If I am to have Men, it will be my Rangers." He said, walking constantly, pacing. He didn't want to stand still, and felt trapped in a concrete world so detached from the woods he truly called home. His negative comfort was etched across his face, but he continued on regardless.
"My Rangers have been in countless stealth operations, if the Deathweaver is within the forests, my men will find him and we will be your best bet of killing him."

Arthur had seated himself down on a tall, stone seat near one of the dining tables. It was made for a soldier, and there was nothing comfortable about it, but it was better than nothing.
”These undead, they would sense things on a higher plane that humans, elves or even Herena. If you were to attempt an assassination mission, Captain, this will be the single most dangerous and formidable task you would have ever undertaken.” He gave that a moment to sink in. ”If you feel confident in your abilities, in your health…” he indicated to the ranger’s leg. ”… and most importantly in your men, then you have my leave to make preparations as you see fit.”
”Although the Lord Commander here will have central command of this mission, if you require anything of me, please let me know and you will have it…”

Rid's not the sort of man to get caught up in petty word-analysis; he merely nods at Faolan's sharp tone, and listens, serious as always.
<b>The Herana and the Elves have not been forgotten. But my position first and foremost mandates that I protect this city-- my city-- first.
However, that leads to yet another question; are we to involve the elves and Herana in this? If it is, as you say, their forest... then surely they will know what we do now."</b> He is quiet, rubbing the slightly-gray stubble at his chin. <b> "As the good Lord Commander has said, 'tis a dangerous undertaking. But the choice is yours. My request in this is that you do not outright rout these fiends-- first, perform reconnaissance, and from there our decisions will be made. More straightforward missions than this have been foiled by hastiness."</b>

"If you seek Herena and Elven help," Faolan said, drawing himself to his full height, all the more for his impression, "I would be more than happy to bring the news to them that the Men seek aid. I have good connections with the Herena expecially, they have never been the greatest of allies to the Men, but we may well need all the help we can muster."
Faolan paused to walk over to the window, and, though when he spoke again he still spoke to the High Commanders, he remained looking out at the view.
"If you must protect your own city," Faolan said, with an air of aloofness about him, "protect the cities of your allies as well. The Men need no more enemies." Faolan turned around to look at Merides. "Our allegiances, and the allegiances of Men are spread if we protect them, they will protect us in return."
